San Fernando’s Art Deco

On occasions, photographing public art throughout Trinidad can be amusing. There are always people around who look puzzled to why a wall seems so interesting. The Rum shop limers who sat opposite this Art Deco buildings in San Fernando where also curious to know. What was so special with the building across the street. They stopped cussing and carrying on, just to maco. The building has a winged arch which acts as a buttress to support the upper part of the structure and is an example of the classic Art Deco architecture San Fernando once had.

The old Power Station in San Fernando Art Deco front. The symmetry and geometric shapes reflected movement and progress to the masses, and the architectural style for 1925 -1939 had functionality and elegance through its use of form and line.
